Explore “Ruler of the World”
Jesus offers his disciples a peace unlike anything the world can give, urging them not to be afraid as he prepares to return to the Father. In Acts, Paul is stoned and left for dead yet rises to continue his mission, embodying the enduring peace Christ promises.
Ask yourself what it would look like to receive Christ's peace today rather than chasing the world's fragile version of it.
Explore “Ruler of the World”
That's a very insightful observation, drawing from today's Gospel reading in John 14. When Jesus speaks of the "ruler of the world," He is indeed referring to Satan, who holds a certain sway over the fallen world due to sin. Jesus' declaration, "the ruler of the world is coming, and he has no claim on me," reveals His perfect sinlessness and complete obedience to the Father. Satan, as the father of lies and tempter, has power over those who succumb to sin, but Jesus, being without sin, is entirely beyond his grasp. This passage highlights the profound truth that through Christ's sacrifice, we too can be freed from the dominion of sin and the "ruler of this world." The Catechism of the Catholic Church, for instance, speaks of Christ's victory over the devil in paragraphs 2851 and 2852, emphasizing that while the devil tempts, he cannot force us to sin, and Christ has definitively conquered him.
